The former Post Graduate Electoral Commission chairman, Mr. Ofem Usani Joseph (NCE, B.Ed, M.Ed, CHSEM, & Ph.D in view) has registered his interest to vie for presidency in the forth coming University of Calabar Post Graduate Students Government (UNICAL-PGSG) election.
Ofem, a native of Ugep, currently undergoing a Ph.D programme in Educational Foundations with bias in Educational Research and Statistics, has promised to reposition the University of Calabar post graduate union for global marketing, recognition and competitiveness through research, liaison and capacity building if elected president.
In a declaration congress, held recently at Eta-Agbor Layout, Calabar, Mr. Ofem named his campaign train as “De Caterpillar Movement”, promising that upon his election, he will ensure the “facilitation of capacity building through periodic training reached”.
Ofem stated that his mission for seeking the top-most office of the union was to maximize the social welfare of postgraduate students by re-establishing a mutual relationship between management and students.
According to Ofem, the creation of an environment for research for all post graduate students was key to promoting academic visibility of the students through launching of scholarly journals with sound editors.
The presidential candidate, while appealing to students present at the congress and those not present for their support promised to liaise with the management and graduate school to ensure that excellence is rewarded as contained in ‘graduate school handbook’; while also promising to induce social responsibilities in the students by providing alternative measures for effective power supply for scholarly activities.
On culture, the presidential candidate said he was going to integrate fair play and justice among the various blocks in post graduate student units.
He further noted that his mission statement is to see to full implementation of his mission and that this said implementation “lies first in joining hands together to deliver this mandate”.
