On Wednesday, May 30th, Unknown gunmen invaded the University of Calabar ambiet and made their way to one of the institution’s famous lecture and reading venue, Pavilion One, Pav1 whereof they did away with students’ phones, laptops, and other valuables.
The incident, an eye witness, a year one student of Dentistry department whose name CrossRiverDaily would not mention said happened at about 10pm during their usual midnight reading class in preparation for exams the following morning.
According to the eye witness’ account, the criminals came to them as security personnel, well armed and cordinated leaving them with no chance for suspicion. He said that “even the students who where hanging around the premise were asked by the criminals to enter inside the hall which they all obeyed thinking they were men of the school surveillance unit. But surprising to us, after all had obeyed they started ordering us to bring out our phones, tabloids, laptops and other valuables while some of them were searching our bags and shooting guns uncontrollably”.
Before the school security team could arrived the scene, CrossRiverDaily understands the criminals had already left as none of them was apprehended.
In a phone call to the Deputy Chief Security Officer of the school, Mr. Usani Usani, CrossRiverDaily was told that efforts to arrest the roobers were already on ground and yielding positive results.
