Chairman of the Abi Security Council cum Care Taker Committee, Barr. Iwasam Adaga has called on the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC) party as well as traditional leaders to desist from threatening and intimidating agents of his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) shortlisted to testify before the tribunal handling Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency election petition.
In a chat with Cross River Daily this weekend, Barr. Adaga alleged that some members of the People’s Democratic Party particularly in Ekureku Ward 1&2 billed to appear before the election tribunal as witnesses are currently being threatened by chieftains of the APC and the traditional leaders in Ekureku community of Abi Local Government Area.
According to Barr. Adaga, the gesture to discourage witnesses from appearing before the petition committee is anti-democratic.
“The move by stakeholders and political tingods of the All Progressive Congress to forcefully apprehend agents of the People’s Democratic Party from testifying in the National Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal over the just concluded Feb 23rd, 2019 Elections of Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency is babaric, uncultured and a threat to our democracy,” Adaga said.
The Abi Security Council Chairman, while calling on the leadership of PDP to live up to its obligation by coming to the aid of its members affirmed that all security agencies in the state have been alerted to ensure no PDP member in Abi was victimized.
“It is imperative for stakeholders and leaders of PDP to rise up and protect faithfuls of the party. Our party (PDP) members and agents have been very calm, and law abiding because of their believe in the Rule of Law. All members of the Security Council should be aware of this development most especially our brothers and sisters from Ekureku 1&2 to continue to manage and oversee our Agents.
“Security Agencies at all levels have been contacted to ensure no party agent is being victimized for any reason. The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party is working assiduously to address the situation and return power to the people,” Barr. Iwasam.
