CrossRiverDaily has it on good authority that the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II will, from Friday, January 10th through Monday, January 13th, 2020 be hosted in Calabar by the Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, Natural Ruler and Treaty King of the Efik Kingdom.
The visit, which CrossRiverDaily understands is part of Oba’s “appreciation tour” aims to synergize both Efik and Benin cultures and to also fortify the relationship of both people said to have existed over three hundred (300) years ago.
According to CrossRiverDaily’s authority, an advance team for the Oba will arrive in Calabar on Wednesday 8th January, whereas the Oba himself is expected in town, a second day after to depart on Monday, January 13th after he must have met with His Excellency the Executive Governor of Cross River State.
Speaking on the relationship between both people, Etubom Eyo Effiom Henshaw, the Assistant Secretary of the Etubom Council of the Obong of Calabar said “when the Ewuare II was corronoted the Oba of Benin in 2016 the Obong of Calabar was present. I was also there to witness the corronotion. He had done this to the president, done a similar thing to the Sultan of Sokoto. So, he’s now coming to South South. Then they will use the opportunity to fine tune their royalties”.
The Oba of Benin will use the opportunity to meet with sons and daughters of Edo State before leaving on Monday.
The Obong of Calabar and Oba of Benin are designated first class chiefs being Natural Rulers and Treaty Kings which are not a creation of politics.
