“Ikom is the center of commerce in Central Cross River State but has no chamber of commerce to further the interests of business owners and create a conducive business community in the locality. However, if we can partner one another, together, we can institute a chamber of commerce here and turn Ikom to the Headquarters of Central Cross River State.”
Hon. Dodeye Arikpo, a senatorial aspirant for Central Cross River State met with the Ikom chapter of the People’s Democratic Party to intimate them of his ambition come 2019 and what support he would need from them as-well-as what they stand to benefit if they help him out.
Dodeye told the people of Ikom that the area is bubbling with life but lacks the requisite initiative to harness this life to building a more prosperous arena; howthat, it remained the center of commerce in the district but hosts no forum of commerce to aid business activities.
“Ikom is the center of commerce in Central Cross River State but has no chamber of commerce to further the interests of business owners and create a conducive business community in the locality. However, if we can partner one another, together, we can institute a chamber of commerce here and turn Ikom to the Headquarters of Central Cross River State,” Dodeye said.
By doing this, Dodeye believes those who are due for promotion would be promoted thereby leaving behind a vacuum for others fill.
On the politics of the area, the senate aspirant regretted why the leaders chose to not to always involve include the people in their decision-making gatherings but would, at all ends always subject them to carrying out decisions they were not part-and-parcel of, even as he informed them that politics has taken a new dimension and that in the current dimension, people are not pushed around or dragged to executing decisions they never made. According to Dodeye, the time for the Ikom people to unanimously take a position and stand by it even if it conflicts with that of the said elites’, was now.
“We have turned our leaders to superstars; so much so that we fidgeting upon seeing them as though they were gods. The same people who do not consider carrying along during decision making processes are the ones who come back to us telling us what to do or who to vote; claiming they know what best suites us even when they have failed to consult our opinion. Politics has changed and the politics in Ikom must change too. This time, the people will have an interest and deliver that interest against any odd. They have turned us into beggars, properly because they feel they know what we want – they feel they can always throw money around and have us do their bidding. But NO! Until we accept to be at a point where we can independently take positions and stand by those positions, I am afraid this will continue to remain the same and then we will continue to live in penury,” Dodeye Arikpo said.
The aspirant beckoned on the party leadership in Ikom to make him their preferred interest and print their thumbs beside his him at the primary election, emphasizing that nothing was going to make him bow out of the race.
In the same vein, the Director General of the Friends of Dodeye Arikpo, a support group for Dodeye’s ambition, Hon. Elemi Alaga affirmed his team’s consultative forum would sustain his principal in office; howthat, at all-time intervals, they will always create opportunities for need assessments talk-shows to x-ray what the need of the people was at a given point in time.
Hon Alaga who encouraged the Ikom chapter of the party not be bought for any price stressed that, that way, they can make a rightful choice that can improve their standard of life and that of their unborn children; while appealing to the party to partner Dodeye Arikpo actualize his dreams of a commercial productive Ikom and stronger Central Cross River State.
The Ikom’s party chapter chairman, Hon. Ferdinand Arong opined that it could be for a better Central and for Dodeye that the Not-Too-Young-To-Run law was enacted, as he extols the Senate hopeful whom, in his opinion has the necessary knowledge, contact and expertise to better Central and make Ikom its Headquarters.
Hon. Arong made open his support for Dodeye Arikpo as he vowed to stand by him till the end of the process.
Observably, the Ikom chapter of the People’s Democratic Party pledged to support Dodeye Arikpo claim that party’s ticket as they unanimously accepted to partner him make Ikom a commerce hub – this they showed as they came forth and received his campaign materials which they wore proudly.
