Former governor of Cross River State, Sen. Liyel Imoke and the Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, would, amongst others, train youths in Cross River State on politics and good governance, come Saturday, July 14th.
Being an itinerary for the 8th Edition of The Bridge Leadership Foundation Career Day Conference scheduled at the Calabar International Convention Centre (CICC), Calabar, participants would, according to the organisers, go home fully equipped with 21st century politics and leadership skills.
Themed “Youths and Good Governance: The Future We Want”, the 2018 Career Day aspires to provide a framework for how youths can actively get involved in the demand and provision of good governance in a manner that ensures the creation of an environment for youths to thrive in governance and become more strategic in the involvement of policy and decision matters of nation building.
According to the Foundation, the Career Day is an annual flagship programme. “The 2018 edition will serve as one of many strategic steps by the Foundation in responding to the global clamor for youth involvement in politics and governance.” The decision to focus on increased youth participation in politics and governance in an election season, the Foundation said, is a deliberate effort to ensure that a conscious effort is made to enshrine equity, inclusiveness, participatory democracy and good governance in the polity.
Also, the event, Cross River Daily News understands, intends to inspire Nigerian youths to take pro-active actions in creating the future they want.
In a press statement signed by the Foundation’s Executive Secretary, Uchenna Achunine and made available to Cross River Daily News, the Foundation said distinguished personalities and notable experts in good governance, citizen engagement, youth and enterprise development will participate and lead the discussions that will drive the 2018 Career Day Conference.
It also said that guest appearance and speakers aside Senator Liyel Imoke who is the founder of Foundation, and Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, on the list include; Mr. Tonye Patrick Cole, Group Managing Director, Sahara Group; Mrs. Toyosi Akerele-Ogunsiji, Founder RISE Networks; Mrs. Victoria Ibezim-Ohaeri, Executive Director, Spaces for Change; Mr. Hamzat Lawal, Co-Founder/Chief Executive of Connected Development [CODE]; Mr. Paul Nwulu, Program Officer, Power and Participation – Ford Foundation; Mr. Chris Ngwodo, Partner at Salem Advisory Services; Dr. Frankland Briyai – INEC REC, Cross River State and Mrs. Tolulope Adeleru-Balogun, Radio | TV Host | Media Trainer/Consultant Broadcast expert.
The Secretary also informed that every year, through the Career Day, TBLF impacts the lives of more than 3,500 youths from Cross River State and across Nigeria. Howthat, since 2011, TBLF has successfully held 7 editions of the Career Day youth conferences and that, for the 2018 Career Day, about 5,000 youths are expected to participate physically while hundreds of thousands will join the conversation online, while noting that attendance is free.
“Youths, Innovators, government officials, policymakers, business leaders, entrepreneurs, development practitioners, and international agencies are expected to grace the occasion.
