Sequela the news making the rounds that the State House of Assembly was initiating a move to rip the State governor of his seat, the House Speaker, Rt. Hon. John Gaul has advised that there is no element of truth in the story.
Regarding the information as a blackmail, the Honourable Speaker said it was intended to cause tension between the Executive and Legislative arms of government; thus, advising Cross Riverians to ignore the claim.
Speaking on the criteria for impeachment, Rt. Hon. John Gaul Lebo said:
“Section 190 of the constitution only contemplates a situation where the governor proceeds on either annual leave or medical vacation.
“It states that where the governor is unable to perform his duties, he should transmit a letter to the house that his deputy should act.
“In this case, the governor is not on annual leave or medical vacation and he has not transmitted any letter to us.
“It is only the transmission of such a letter that can give powers to the deputy governor to act in his absence’’.
While noting that Ayade was on an investment trip abroad, Rt. Hon. informed that the governor had since returned to the country.
