Honourable Nelson Ofem, the House of Assembly member representing Yakurr 1 State Constituency has recently sponsored a bill to make broad the scope of the state’s Institute of Management and Technology (ITM), Ugep.
The bill, labeled ‘Cross River State Polytechnic Bill’, according to the honourable member, upon success would become a foundation for a Federal University of Technology expected in the nearest future.
On the necessity of the bill, Honourable Nelson said the pattern at which the current ITM, Ugep was structured made way for the institution to train students only on specific fields, howthat, expanding the scope beyond just being an institute but polytechnic, which would see the creation of more faculties and erection of more structures would be of more benefits.
The bill, Cross River Daily News also understands seeks to bring down the cost of schooling which Hon. Nelson Ofem noted is, at the moment high and not favourable to certain classes of people in the society.
He informed that the proposed polytechnic is structured to provide training on technical labor not training on art and humanities.
Honourable Nelson told Cross River Daily News that upon resumption from recess, the House was going to hasten the legislative processes to making sure the bill was done with as fast as soon.
