People’s Democratic Party senatorial aspirant for Central Cross River, CSO Dodeye Arikpo has begged the party faithfuls in Abi Local Government to allow only their conscience guide their actions as they prepare for the party’s primary elections.
Dodeye made this plea during his consultative and interactive meeting with the party’s Chapter and Ward EXCOs today at the Abi LGA Council Hall, Itigidi.
Observing the money bags already in the race and the reality of his lean resources, Arikpo beckoned on partymen to jettison the juicy and what he described as “peanuts” brought them by his contenders and rally round the one in whom their conscience had advised.
Praising Dodeye Arikpo for his decision to contest, the Abi Chapter Chairman, Mr. Egbe Awo brought to the aspirant’s notice what he referred to as the plights of the people of Abi. The Chairman said lack of commutable roads in some communities in the local government was chief to all these plights as he begged Dodeye Arikpo to harbour the prayers of Abi at heart, that way, the chairman said would enable Mr. Aspirant deliver on the mandate of Abi people should his dreams come to fruition.
“To be sincere, we the people of Abi have not felt any dividends of democratic representation since 1999. Some of our communities here do not even have transportable roads. That is why we are appealing for a difference and our wish that a young man like us should take on the mantle. We believe that by the end of our support for you, you will do better,” Mr. Egbe said.
Over the excitement he received from the Abi branch of the party, Dodeye Arikpo retreited his resolute decision to deliver on his assurances even as he begged the attendees to have their minds fixed on their choice and not be negatively influenced.
Highlight of the session was the unanimous decision of PDP Abi to partner Dodeye Arikpo fly the party’s flag at polls; this gesture, they showed as they received some promotional materials from Dodeye Arikpo with the pledge to wear them till the end of the entire exercise as part of their commitment to Dodeye Arikpo’s ambition.
