Youths wing of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Central Cross River State has seized the occasion of the 45th birth anniversary of CSO Dodeye Arikpo to pledge stout and unshaken support to the celebrant who is currently jostling to represent the senatorial district at the National Assembly.
Represented by prominent figures, each of the Local Government Areas of the district took turns to, on behalf of the rest, will their support for Dodeye Arikpo.
Honourable E. Cyril who came with a flock of Etung youths to grace the event said that of all the six local government areas that constitute the central senatorial district only Yakurr and Obubra LGAs were yet to represent the district at the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.
According to Hon. Cyril, the youths of Etung were faced with a choice to support anyone from these two LGAs and after due consultations settled for Dodeye Arikpo for reasons not far from credence and trust which they repose in him.
Hon. Enang Precious, one of the immediate past Councillors in Obubra who followed Hon. Cyril emphatically stated that “this is the time for Yakurr, and Ugep to be precise”; howthat, it is a unanimous resolve among the Obubra people to partner Yakurr at this time so that come next dispensation, Yakurr will give them the necessary assistance they would need to have a turn in the representation since they, Yakurr and Obubra remain the two LGAs yet to represent the district.
Michael Akpong Inyang, one of the Boki Ward EXCO members who spoke on behalf of the Boki PDP youths present at the event said that Boki youths are no longer interested in following already established names in the district’s politics who are not willing to let a younger generation serve. Michael Akpong feared that if they continue following these “old” stalwarts, a time will come that they will be compelled to follow the stalwarts’ children; a development he considers not proper for fair distribution of the national galette while pointing to age and newness to the polity as part of the reasons they decided to throw their weight behind Dodeye Arikpo’s struggle.
With the highest number of LGA representation at the occasion, Abi representative, Hon. Wilfred Ina who was the Deputy Leader of the Abi Legislative Council did not hold the floor for too long but rather hurriedly relayed that Dodeye Arikpo’s interest was all-inclusive, howthat, it is the sole reason a good portion of Abi PDP youths have signed-up for the project Dodeye Arikpo.
Hon. Eteng Ibiang Omini, also a former Councillor speaking on behalf of Yakurr youths said that what the #TeamDodeyeArikpo is looking for is exactly what it is capable to handle; while reiterating Yakurr youths support for Dedeya Arikpo.
Cross River Daily observed with keen interest the cold absence of Ikom wing of the party as the Director General of the Friends of Dodeye Arikpo, FODA, Hon Elemi Alaga said was due to “some logistic misunderstandings” even as he announced his confidence in the level of support Dodeye Arikpo has been enjoying from Ikom youths.
