President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday left the country for Togo alongside the Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade to attend the ECOWAS and Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) meeting.
Of concern to Cross River Daily is that Ayade has always been the only PDP member often elected to join Buhari in meetings of this magnitude, a fact, one of our sources (whose name we would not mention) closer to the governor said was unconnected to his underground politicking to joining the all Progressive Congress party.
Recall the publications that occupied the media space claiming the governor had instructed his supporters while readying to receive him at the airport in his last “merry-return” to not come with any support material having the PDP logo or any related symbol after supporters of the party blocked him at the National Secretariat to protest a no second term ticket for him.
Recall also The Nations publication of 25th July with headline: “Cross River youths protest against Ayade joining APC” which reported that “Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday stormed the national secretariat of the party to protest against the alleged plan defection of the state governor, Prof. Ben Ayade to the party, saying there was no vacancy for the Governor”.
Consequent on these and other developments, Cross River Daily initiated a query about the governor’s party future and our source who is a close ally to the governor hinted in confidence there are signs the governor could make his movement to APC official when he returns from the Togo trip with Mr. President.
