Sen. Prince Bassey Otu who represented Southern Cross River State in the Nigeria Senate from 2011 to 2015 has called on the Inspector General of Police to investigate an assassination plot on him.
CrossRiverDaily understands that Sen. Bassey came to the knowledge of the plot after attending a business meeting in Transcorp Hilton in Abuja on March 23, 2018, when a stranger approached him and revealed the assassination plan to him.
Accordingly, Chief Barr. Utum Eteng, the counsel to Sen. Bassey wrote to the Police IG demanding an investigation and possibly arrest.
The petition dated March 30, 2018 and titled ‘Threat To The Life Of Senator Bassey Otu From Militants And Kidnappers From Niger-Delta And Paid Assassins From Nasarawa State’ read in part:
“Sir, though our client suspects no one particular person, he has ears to the ground and has strong suspicion, where such wicked plans may be coming from.
“In the circumstance, our client may wish to appeal to you to employ the privilege of your office to investigate and possibly protect him from any form of harm. We also pray you heed our plea and in time too as a stitch in time saves nine.”
“He informed our client of an ongoing plan to kidnap and keep him for as long as the sponsors who promised to pay N40m for the assignment may wish.
“He also reminded our client of a similar plan against him in 2010 which was hatched in Rivers State but aborted by the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, who reported the incident to the Cross River State police, consequent upon which some elements were invited by the police in Calabar.”
