APC Cross River Sets-up Two State EXCOS As Confusion Heightens

In what could better be described as further magnification of the confusion currently rocking the All Progressive Congress party, APC in the state, yesterday saw a faction of the party sets-up another State Executive Council, EXCO totally different from the one announced the previous weekend bringing the number of EXCO bodies to two in one state, a development not palatable at all.

The party, had, on May 19, 2018 conducted its state congress at the Cultural Centre, Calabar, which saw the emergence of Mr. Etim John as State Chairman. However, yesterday, May 27, 2018 some members of the party who are unhappy with the outcome of the May 19th exercise grouped themselves for a make-up congress that led to the announcement of Dr. Mathew Achigbe as State Chairman following a voice vote cast.

The proposed venue for yesterday’s congress was Ikot-Ansa Town Hall although the venue was later not used to to the interference of the Police who sealed the Hall as early as 9.am for reason that they perceived bloodshed should the congress had held there.

“I got intelligence report that there would be bloodbath; so, I had to intervene.

“A faction of the party had initially written that they wanted to hold the congress at that venue, but the chairman of the party wrote to dissociate himself from that congress.

“We acted promptly to avert a breakdown of law and order,” says the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa.

Despite that, the faction led by a former governor of the state, Mr. Clement Ebri; the senator representing the Central Senatorial district in the National Assembly, John Owan-Enoh; and the National Vice Chairman of APC, South-South, Mr. Hilliard Eta, who took charge of the affairs, reconvened same day at the Ebola Center of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital for the congress.

Other dignitaries at the new venue of the congress were a former commissioner in the Niger Delta Development Commission, Prof. Eyo Nyong, and a former member of House of Representatives, Mr. Paul Adah, among others.

It is not yet clear to CrossRiverDaily which of the EXCO bodies would the national leadership of the party accept though some party members had opined that the congress of yesterday was without the presence of any legit official commissioned from Abuja to organize the exercise; howbeit, both factions, CrossRiverDaily can authoritatively report have returned to Abuja to continue the politics.
