Immediate past Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly and winner of the February 23rd, to 2019 Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency election, Rt Hon John Gaul Lebo has accused Hon Alex Egbona of plotting to assasinate him.
Gaul in a petition addressed to the Director of DSS, Cross River State Command and signed by his lawyers MO Nyiam & Associates, claimed that Alex Egbona had hired assasins from Bayelsa and Akwa-Ibom led by one Inspector Usman Akada (a police officer attached to Egbona) to trail and kill him.
According to the petition dated october 7, 2019 which was made available to CrossRiverDaily in Calabar, some gun men in a Toyota Camry car on sunday october 6, had trailed the former Assembly Speaker around Calabar metropolis with the intention to kill him.
It further stated that the gunmen, led by one Inspector Usman Akada (a police officer attached to Hon Alex Egbona), had followed the former Speaker till about 12am to his residence only to retreat after sighting a police patrol van stationed close to his residence.
John Gaul according to the petition, said Alex Egbona believes that eliminating him will circumstantially cause the Court of Appeal to reverse in Alex Egbona’s favour, the September 4, 2019 elections petition tribunal judgement which declared him (John Gaul Lebo) winner of the February 23, 2019 Abi/Yakurr federal constituency election.
The petition which also copied the Cross River State commissioner of police, revealed that the same car used to trail Hon John Gaul, was on monday october 7, 2019, seen being driven out of the Calabar residence of the accused, a scenario which necessitated the call on the DSS Director and Cross River State commissioner of police to immediately investigate the allegation and bring the culprits to book.
